Day after day, the moment was coming…
I said Goodbye to my family, my friends, my school, my city, my country…and I left.
It was the 8th of July when I left my full life for Australia.
Ten months as exchange student, to know the Australian’s way of life, to learn English, to try something new, live an experience to remember for the rest of my life. I changed all my habits, here I get up in the morning when my friends in Italy are going to bed and back, and everything is different.
To be an exchange student was my dream from years, and now I am here, in Port Augusta, but first of all in Australia, to realize my dream.
What I do here is to go to school, try to improve my English, make new friends, enjoy every moment, and go on day after day.
My city in Italy is the place where I was born, where I grew up, where my family is and where I had all my life, but it wasn’t enough, I needed to see something else. That is because I left, and now my city is far 25 hours from me, and the life there is going on without me, at the other face of the world.
Port Augusta for me is just the place where I’m living and where I’m going to spend 9 months, and it doesn’t mean a lot, because I haven’t been here for a long time yet. But it’s the place where my host family lives, and now I am a member of that family, and Port Augusta is the centre of that family’s life: it’s where they were born, where they work, where my host brothers and sisters go to school.
Now, Port Augusta is the place where I live, where I’m acquiring news habits, the place where my new life is started.
Nothing is bad, but everything is different, and the differences make the world as beautiful as it is.
I don’t have particulars really important things here, accept from myself, because my life is still in Italy, but I have all the necessary here to become a best person every day.
