Saudi Senior Official: Women Will Not Participate in Municipal Elections
A senior official in the Saudi Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs has announced that women would not be permitted to vote in next month's municipal elections. He said that the possibility of revoking this decision had been considered but rejected, for social reasons.

In Iran, Police Threatens Violators of Dress Code; Baha'i Preachers Arrested
A senior police commander warned the Iranian public that the police would employ harsh measures against anyone violating the Islamic dress code during the Persian New Year celebrations this month, and that the wearing of the hijab would be strictly enforced, even on women in the privacy of their cars.
The Iranian authorities announced that citizens had been arrested in Tehran, Kerman, and Bam for belonging to a network that spread the Baha'i faith, which is forbidden in Iran. It should be noted that Iran has executed Baha'is for their faith.
